Sailing on Snettisham Lake

Sailing on Snettisham Lake

Snettisham Beach Sailing Club invites you and your family to join us for an opportunity to sail with a member, see the club’s boats, and experience the clubhouse facilities – be prepared to get wet, eat and drink!

From 11am till 3pm on Saturday, 5 June 2010  all are welcome to check out what goes on at Snettisham Sailing Club.  Vice-Commodore, Guy Playford said: “The club promotes the incredible sport of sailing – a great way of keeping fit, meeting new people and a fantastic way to getting next to nature.  Above all sailing is FUN and there is no other sensation like gliding across the water with the wind in your hair!”

Snettisham Sailing Club offers training on both sea and an enclosed lake so it is able to cater for all levels of sailing so why not give it a try.  Don’t forget to check out what’s on offer in the Heacham Summer Activities programme during July and August which should be published in mid-July – some of the activties can include sailing and kayaking on the lake at Snettisham.  Watch this space to see what opportunities will be on offer for Summer 2010.

There are at least two open gardens on over the weekend that we know of.  These include Dersingham and Sedgeford.  Dersingham is opening a selection of gardens on 30 and 31 May (2pm till 6pm) and Sedgeford have ten gardens open on 30 May.  For further details of the Sedgeford Open Gardens contact Mrs Pam Goddard on 01485 579002.  Each Open Garden event revolves around the local church so that would be a good starting point to locating the gardens.

A few  more ideas of what to do this Bank Holiday could include visiting Park Farm for a special daily programme of sheep shearing and sheep dog demonstrations (30 May – 6 June) or Bircham Windmill’s sheep racing!!

For the more arty crafty, Park Farm is offering  an Art and Craft programme with a number of art demos and crafty activities for you to participate in. Among the range of activities on offer include kite making, frisbee making and photograph frame making. (There may be an additional charge for some events.)  And don’t miss out on this unique farm attraction at this special time of year now that the deer are calving.  The first baby deer was born on the farm on 24 May. If you miss it this weekend don’t worry as a good 60 new calves are expected to be born on Park Farm during June and July so there will be other opportunities to look forward to.

Due to the wonderful success of last years Country Day at Bircham Windmill, this year Bircham Windmill are holding a Country Weekend – on May 30th and 31st  from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday there will be children’s show jumping (no ponies – just children!), guinea pig racing, our famous sheep racing, horse dressage and meet the horse and Mrs Ward will be there with lots of children’s activities.

On Monday there is Doggy show jumping, Morris dancing, sheep shearing, our great fun dog show and the show jumping with the finale of our collie dog V the horse in a higher and higher competition.  Mrs Ward will be there again in her Victorian cottage with her sister reminiscing about old times.

1st Heacham Scouts Report

It has been another busy term for 1st Heacham Scouts who spent an evening discussing Shelterbox, their chosen charity.  The Scouts looked at recent disasters where Shelterbox has been able to help, and the sort of aid the charity provides.

Cooking evenings always go well, and this term the 1st Heacham Scouts prepared beef or veggie burgers, and cooked them for themselves. No serious injuries were reported..!

There was a good show for the Sport Relief Mile at Bircham Newton on Sunday 21st March. The Scouts had been training for this in the weeks leading up to it, and will use this towards their Fitness Challenge badges. The Scouts survived the jogging rather better than the Leader! In total the Scouts raised over £250 for this worthy cause; thank you to all our sponsors.

At the end of March 1st Heacham Scouts held a music evening with a live performance from some of the Scouts and friends. As it was their last meeting before Easter, they also squeezed in some egg-themed games, involving a lot off chocolate eggs and a lot of chocolate egg eating. It was Jason’s last evening and we wish him well in the Explorer’s group at Sandringham.

1st Heacham Scouts took part in the St George’s Day parade at Sandringham on 25th April with many fun activities taking place prior to the actual parade. Families were encouraged to attend and support all the groups.  If you want to join 1st Heacham Scouts please contact Rob on 01485 572239 and Julz on 01485 572890.
